ON THE COAST
Waves crash up the beach,
Kids dash out of reach, waves and
Kids drift back. Repeat.
Gulls cry high notes to
Steady chugs from fishing boats
As a seal drifts by.
Wild sea, harbour wall,
One huge wave soars high and falls
Crashing to concrete.
Herons play statues
For hours and stare. They’re still there.
Digesting it all.
Wires pinging, singing
Shrill notes from tied up boats in
Windswept marinas.
I’ll gruffly mention
“His Majesty’s Red Ensign”.
Stand to attention!!
Old sea dogs’ tales of
Sails and whales, and Force 10 gales
On the Beaufort Scale.
